Kane’s Donuts Saugus, MA
On a beach trip from Boston to Gloucester with my wife Dina (@dishitgirldina on IG), I made sure my GPS took us off the highway and right past Kane’s Donuts in Saugus, MA. Not in Boston proper, but in the suburbs, I was hoping it was worth the detour. It’s consistently on America’s Best Donut lists and since they’ve been around for more than 55 years, it’d proof that people will keep coming to this place for their donut fix.

From the outside it looks like an old house, but on the inside, freshly baked donuts from the fryer sit stacked on the racks behind the counter. The honey dipped (or glazed) looks exactly how you want one to: golden, pillowy, and covered in translucent glaze with white peaks coating the outer rim.

I also tried the Turtle, a cake donut that was like a very moist turtle cake, Crème Brulee, which had the crispy torched sugar layer on top, and Reese Cup, which was the most decadent looking. Maybe it wasn’t the best idea to stop at this fine establishment BEFORE the beach?!
