And the winner for the most unique name for a donut shop goes to….I’m Donut? The name maybe be an existential play on what it means to be a donut, but chef Ryouta Hirako’s donuts knows exactly what they are.

The blew up on the scene in Japan in 2022, quickly expanding and gaining a cult following. They’ve recently moved to NYC, in the heart of Times Square, and the craze has continued. The nama-style donut (which means “Fresh” in Japanese) has a feather-light, chewy, and light texture that’s unlike most other donuts. A lot of the flavors lean in Japanese flavors and ingredients. These aren’t cheap donuts by any means, ranging from $7-$10 per donut, on average, but they are very unique.
